What can Events do?
The Events module lets you automate communication and workflows in Handyman without manual intervention. Events can:
- Send email or SMS notifications to customers (e.g. "Your service technician is on the way")
- Notify field workers of new or updated assignments
- Alert office staff when an order reaches a specific status
- Trigger follow-up tasks automatically when a condition is met
- Send reminders before planned service dates
How do Events work?
An Event consists of two parts:
- Trigger — the condition that causes the Event to fire (e.g. order created, order completed, service due date reached, X days before planned start)
- Action — what happens when the trigger fires (e.g. send email, send SMS)
Events are defined as templates and then applied to orders — either manually on individual orders, or automatically based on order category.
How do I set up Events?
The typical setup process is:
- Create Event templates — define triggers and actions under Configuration → Templates → Events
- Link to order categories — assign templates as defaults for specific order categories so Events apply automatically to new orders of that type
- Or add manually — add Event templates to individual orders via the Event tab on the order
- Activate Events — some Events activate automatically when their trigger fires; others require manual activation by a coordinator
