What is a tentative task?
In the Resource Planner, you can set the default task status for new tasks to either Not started or Tentative. A tentative task is a proposed assignment — the planner has scheduled it, but the field worker must confirm they accept the work before it becomes an active task.
This is useful when planners schedule work in advance and want field workers to confirm their availability before the task is locked in.
What happens when a field worker receives a tentative task?
When a Handyman Mobile user synchronises and receives a tentative task, they see the task in their list with a tentative status indicator. They must choose one of two actions:
- Accept — the task status changes to active (not started) and appears in their normal work queue
- Reject — the task is declined and the status updates in the Resource Planner so the planner can reassign it
How do I configure tentative as the default task status?
- In Handyman Office, open the Resource Planner
- Go to Settings
- Find the default task status setting
- Select Tentative
- Click OK
All new tasks created in the Resource Planner will now be tentative by default. Individual tasks can still be manually set to a different status when needed.
Can I mix tentative and non-tentative tasks?
Yes. The default setting applies to new tasks, but you can change the status of any individual task in the Resource Planner. Urgent tasks you can set directly to active while routine planned work uses tentative to allow field workers to confirm availability.
